Learning and exercise scenarios

Link to the video tutorial

beook offers the possibility to create and execute your own learning and exercise scenarios. You can add any pages, tasks and media to your individual learning scenario, even from different ebooks. The scenarios can be used, for example, as exam preparation or to memorise what you have read and repeat what you have learned. This new function is also interesting for teachers: for example, a preparation assignment can be compiled for a specific topic and shared with the class.

Learning scenario:

In this type of scenario, any number of pages, tasks and media can be manually collected from several different ebooks and added to a scenario. The learning scenarios can be created by yourself, but you can also receive them shared or some of them are also available as part of an ebook.

Exercise scenario:

Exercise scenarios are automatically created based on various criteria that you specify and contain only exercises. You choose which chapters of which ebooks should all be considered, whether only exercises with a certain solution or difficulty level should be listed, or can, for example, include only the wrongly solved exercises in the exercise scenario.

Overview of the scenarios

By clicking on the scenario icon, you can access an overview of the scenarios you have created. Here you can also see at a glance how many elements your scenario contains, the selected scenario mode, and of course the scenario type.

The structure of this page is similar to the structure of the portal: Under "My scenarios" you will find the scenarios that you have created yourself, under "More scenarios" you will find a list of the scenarios that you have received shared or that are part of an ebook. From here you can either create a new scenario or edit or execute an existing scenario.

Please note that you cannot edit or change scenarios that you have received or that come from an ebook, you can only do this with the scenarios you have created yourself.

If you want to see more details about a created scenario or if you want to edit or execute the scenario, simply click on the corresponding scenario and the following new view will open, from which you can start the different actions:

Creating and executing a learning scenario

With a click on the button "Create" in the upper right corner, you can create a new scenario. Before you enter the essential characteristics for your scenario, you have to decide which type of scenario you want to create - in this case a learning scenario.

You can enter the following components for each learning scenario that you create:

  • Name of the scenario
  • Duration of the scenario in minutes: For example, you have the possibility to simulate a test in real time
  • Description: this is for a better overview and helps you to find your way around when working with several different scenarios
  • Annotatable: Choice of whether annotations can be displayed and created (markers, notes in various forms). These annotations also appear in the normal ebook view.
  • Mode: Free choice, correction, preparation, exam

The mode defines whether the correction help should be displayed when a learning scenario is executed. With the mode "Correction", the answers are automatically corrected and displayed immediately after answering as an additional step between the elements. With "Preparation" mode, you can always choose whether you want to display the correction or solution.

In the "Exam" mode, the correction help and the corrections are not displayed; they are only available after the learning scenario has been completed. In this way a real exam situation is simulated. The "Free choice" mode allows the mode to be set only when the user executes the scenario.

As soon as the learning scenario is created, it is visible in the overview under "My scenarios" and you can now add any pages, exercises or even media from different ebooks to this learning scenario.

Add contents/elements to the learning scenario:

To add elements to your learning scenario, switch to the individual teaching materials you have installed.
You can now add the desired pages/exercises to the learning scenario using the export arrow.

You can also add content to another learning scenario that you have already created at the same time:

After you have added all desired content (also from different ebooks) to the learning scenario, you can execute it.

If you would like to compile a scenario on a certain topic and do not know exactly in which ebooks this topic was covered, you can search for the term in the global search. Then you can select the search results that apply with a tick and add them to the learning scenario at the bottom with one click.

Execute scenario:

To execute a scenario (learning or exercise scenario), you can select the scenario in the overview. A new window then opens with all details of the selected scenario. Here you can now start executing the scenario.

You will now be guided through the learning scenario. Depending on the mode, the correction aid is displayed or the exercises are corrected. If you have created an annotatable scenario, you can insert the annotations as usual by choosing the appropriate annotation in the upper right-hand corner. You can also leave the learning scenario at any time in the upper right-hand corner.
At the bottom right, you can display the correct answers (depending on the mode) and also display the statistics.
You can navigate through the scenario using the arrows at the bottom.

After completing the scenario, your results are presented to you and you can call up the answers again or, if there are also exercises in the learning scenario, you can display only the wrong answers to deal with them again.

You can also repeat the scenario right away and even set specific rules for the repetition, so that, for example, the scenario should only be repeated with the unanswered questions (only applies if it also has exercises in the learning scenario).

Editing a learning scenario

You also have the possibility to edit learning scenarios after they have been created in the detailed view of the learning scenario. You can rename a learning scenario, change the mode or change the order of the individual elements using drag & drop.

It is now also possible to define a prologue and an epilogue. This can either be a content page from an ebook or a separate page, which you can create and design according to your needs. To define a prologue or epilogue, add the page to the learning scenario via the action arrow and drag and drop it into the prologue or epilogue field in the editing mode of the scenario. The prologue serves as an entry point into the learning scenario. The actual start of the scenario with the time expires only starts after this initial page. The learning scenario is completed with the epilogue.

Create and execute an exercise scenario

You can also create a new exercise scenario by clicking on the "Create" button in the top right-hand corner. This time we choose exercise scenario as scenario type.

For this scenario type, you can also give the task scenario a name, add a description and duration and select the mode.
In addition to selecting the ebooks and chapters to be considered, you have other options for customizing your exercise scenario, for example, by filtering by degree of solution, correctness and difficulty.

After you have made your selection, you can start the exercise scenario. The process flow and the options during execution of the exercise scenario are similar to those of a learning scenario.

After you have completed the scenario, your results are presented to you and you have the option of executing the scenario again immediately or to look at your answers in more detail and focus on the errors again, for example.
